Özet acterial wilt is one of the major diseases of tomato and other solanaceous plants caused by a soil borne bacterium Ralstonia solanacearum, worldwide. Currently there are only very limited disease management options for tomato bacterial wilt. Previous studies have shown the effect of crude plant essential oils against R. Solanacearum; however, rapid volatility of the materials are an issue in long-term effectiveness in a production system. Based on current literature of the benefits of nanomaterials, we hypothesized that nano-sized plant essential oils would have better antibacterial properties than micron-size crude plant essential oils. Preliminary studies were conducted in-vitro and in soil collected form tomato fields to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment concentration and exposure duration. This study demonstrated the improved antibacterial effect of nano compared to micron sized thyme and clove oil and their mixtures on Ralstonia solanacearum.
